Positive Education at Geelong Grammar School
Positive Education is a research-based approach to teaching and learning based upon the science of Positive Psychology. At Geelong Grammar School we bring this to life through a whole school approach to teaching and learning from ELC to Year 12. We use implicit and explicit teaching of Positive Psychology skills and principles across all aspects of school life: academic subjects, pastoral life, the co-curriculum programme, and through specific Positive Psychology programmes in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10.
Geelong Grammar School Workshop
The Geelong Grammar School (GGS) Model of Positive Education is a conceptual framework and applied model to support schools in their theoretical understanding and practical implementation of positive psychology. The aim of the Model is for individuals to flourish (Keyes, 2005). It is based upon the scientific research underpinning positive psychology and observations and learning from implementing positive psychology interventions at the School.
The structure and detail of the GGS Model of Positive Education enables schools to understand how positive psychology can be embedded through:
• the explicit teaching of skills and knowledge
• implicit approaches to classroom teaching, pastoral care and co-curriulum programmes
• complementary institutional practices
Our presentation workshop will enable attendees to understand and experience positive education in action through current curriculum examples.
