‘A LIVING LIBRARY OF POSITIVE EDUCATION IN ACTION’
hosted by Geelong Grammar School’s
Institute of Positive Education

Geelong Grammar School presents ‘A Living Library of Positive Education in Action’. This first Positive Schools living library offers a chance for delegates to be readers of real life ‘human books’ as they chat to Geelong Grammar School staff and students about their personal experience of Positive Education in action.

Introducing ‘A Living Library’

First held at a youth festival in Denmark in 2000, a living library event is the coming together of individuals in an open and safe environment.

Volunteer ‘Books’ are real people who are able to communicate their personal reality (eg. ‘learning as a student with Positive Education’ or ‘how Positive Education has changed by teaching’ ). These ‘living books’ meet with interested ‘readers’ to openly discuss their experiences and share their knowledge.

A LIVING LIBRARY OF POSITIVE EDUCATION IN ACTION
In this stream, Geelong Grammar School’s Institute of Positive Education will welcome delegates to a Positive Education School Living Library experience. An opportunity to understand what Positive Education looks like and feels like as you experience it as a student, a teacher and a parent.

The ‘living books’ encompass three stories:
“Positive Education – The student experience”
“Positive Education – The teacher experience”
“Positive Education – The parent experience”

Delegates will adopt the role of a student and participate in a wellbeing lesson, engage in a staff meeting where a common language is shared and interact as a parent actively nurturing wellbeing and feeling a strong sense of belonging to a school community.

There will be opportunities for dialogue with Geelong Grammar School staff and/or students at each ‘living book’. There will be a range of interactive activities and video clips portraying Positive Education in Action. Delegates will leave with a deeper understanding of what a whole school approach to Positive Education can look like and hopefully with inspiration, confidence and ideas to improve the wellbeing of their own school community.

The ninety minute session will start with a 10 minute group introduction and finish with a 10 minute group discussion and conclusion. In between delegates (readers) will be invited to interact with each of the SIX ‘living books’ for a twenty minute period. The ‘living books’ can be read in any order. A short Positive Education experience will be shared as readers transition between the ‘living books’.
