Wise Solutions also offers affordable, whole-school evalutation services.  Each has been designed to reliably and effectively assess the mental health of ALL children,adolescents AND adults. All our services are now available as tradional paper questionnaires or as an online data entry program.

 

The evaluation services uses a combination of established psychological measures. Data is analysed using quantitative statistical techniques and incorporated into comprehensive, easy-to-read reports for teaching staff, allied health professionals, funding organizations, parents and other interested parties.

The Complete Package provides you with information about the mental health status of students in each class for each of the measures used.  Findings from individual classes are compared to each other and to established norms. In addition, vulnerable children are identified in confidence.

 

Schools need objective, reliable means for assessing mental health in all students.  Mental health is too important an issue to be addressed with anecdotal feedback and subjective reporting.  Mental health programs are too costly to be implemented without assessment of their ongoing effectiveness.

 

In modern society parents and other community members look to schools to accurately assess and evaluate mental health in children and adolescents.

 

The High Risk Package™ (HRP) offers your school an immediate list of ALL high risk students in each of FOUR distinct mental health categories.

We give you the names of ALL students indicating clinically high levels of emotional disorders (depression and/or anxiety), conduct disorders, hyperactivity and inattention, bullying and aggression.

 

The Staff Evaluation Package (SEP) and Individual Package (IP)

Wise Solutions offers a formal means of assessing sources of staff stress, staff wellbeing, staff levels of stress and staff levels of distress. The Staff Evaluation Package (SEP) and Individual Package (IP) both provide an opportunity to examine staff:

Sources of work stress

Work related and personal stress levels;

Psychological approaches to life and work and

Staff can be assessed individually or as a group.  Assessments are always confidential; anonymity can be assured if required.

 

 

 

Professional Development Seminars.

Our seminars are presented by Dr Helen Street.

 

Each of the seminar topics is concerned with improving awareness and understanding of mental health issues facing students and staff.

 

Setting Goals for Mental Health focuses on student mental health and classroom harmony while, Teaching Well addresses staff stress, distress, work satisfaction and wellbeing.

 

This one day seminar, designed for all teaching staff, aims to increase school awareness and understanding of mental health and to improve wellbeing and resiliency within the classroom.

 

Participants will gain an increased awareness and understanding of mental health issues in schools.  Particular attention will be paid to depression, anxiety, bullying and prosocial behaviour.

 

Session One focuses on UNDERSTANDING MENTAL HEALTH. Dr Street presents an overview of modern understandings of mental health, introduces key signs and symptoms indicating mental health problems in the classroom and outlines strategies for working towards improved classroom harmony.

 

Session Two focuses on DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY.  This session provides understanding of both depression and anxiety and information to allow for better identification of vulnerability within the classroom.  The power of language is explored in line with strategies to increase positive thinking and improve individual wellbeing.

 

Session Three explores bullying within the classroom with particular emphasis on identifying VICTIMS OF BULLYING AND AGGRESSION.  A whole-class approach is taken with a focus on the importance and development of assertive communication.

 

Session Four discusses positive social behaviour and the need to remain solution focused when IMPROVING CLASSROOM HARMONY.  Emphasis is placed on the importance of motivated learning.  Effective goal setting strategies are discussed as a means of reducing procrastination.  Finally the importance of effective leadership is discussed with reference to relieving staff stress and improving wellbeing.

 

Teaching Well

Work related stress is increasingly cited as the number one reason for job dissatisfaction among Australian teachers. This one day seminar focusing on reducing stress and improving wellbeing has been designed specifically with principals and teachers in mind.

Participants will be given the opportunity to better understand and nurture their own mental health and wellbeing.  Information and strategies will be examined to decrease ongoing work stress and anxiety, improve goal planning and pursuit and to promote personal health and professional satisfaction.

 

 

The day will be divided into three key sessions:

 

Session One LESS STRESS – Understanding and managing work related stress and associated behaviours.  This first session will explore work related difficulties impacting on staff health and wellbeing. In addition to becoming more aware of their own stress and related difficulties, participants will be taught a number of different strategies to reduce stress, unhealthy “hurry sickness” and related stress induced signs and symptoms.

 

Session Two .CALM AND CONFIDENT – Understanding and reducing work related anxiety; increasing work centered wellbeing and confidence. Arguably the most prevalent problem among teachers is that of anxiety related to work performance and social interactions.  This second session will not only increase understanding of the causes of anxiety among teachers, it will focus on reducing and preventing anxiety in all areas of their professional life.

 

Session Three PERSONAL BEST – Understanding and improving methods of personal and professional goal setting and pursuit.  The final session of the day highlights the importance of effective goal setting and goal pursuit in ensuring both professional success and personal wellbeing.  Theories of goal setting are explored as a means of improving time management and productivity and also in terms of nurturing positive mental health and professional satisfaction at work.
